Dr. Andrew Sacco

Dr. Andrew Sacco joined Dr. DeVita in practice in 1991 in the practices’ original Vestal Parkway location.  Key milestones during Dr. Sacco’s tenure include being one of the first offices with a  paperless electronic medical records system, a move to a more spacious and modern facility in our current location, a clinical teaching appointment at United Health Services,  an externship program for instructing family physicians within our office, the founding of the Veterans Administration Eye Clinic in Binghamton, and the recent formation of Sacco Eye Group Ophthalmic Research, PLLC (a subsidiary business performing clinical trials for new contact lens and pharmaceutical development).  Dr. Sacco is a graduate of The Rochester Institute of Technology and was a Board of Trustee and Wildermuth Scholar at the  Pennsylvania College of Optometry.  He completed a one year residency in ocular disease at The Eye Institute and Hahnemman University in Philadelphia, and obtained his Fellowship status in the Academy of Optometry in 1993 (one of the youngest to do so).  Dr. Sacco also completed training at Albert Einstein and Holy Redeemer hospitals.  Special interests include solution/cornea/lens interactions in contact lens wearers, glaucoma and neurological diseases of the visual system.  Dr. Sacco has been published in several professional publications and is currently a consultant for Bausch and Lomb.  He is also a principal investigator for Bausch and Lomb, Vistakon and Alcon and served on the Bausch and Lomb Corneal Infiltrate Advisory Board.  He is also past president of the one thousand member New York State Optometric Association and has served on various committees for the American Optometric Association. 

Dr. Sacco is married to his wife Staci and they are blessed with three beautiful children.  In addition to the business, consulting and spending time with his family, Dr. Sacco keeps busy with fly fishing, bird hunting over his Labrador Retrievers, playing soccer, following the NY Giants, photography, astronomy, cycling, tasting new and exciting wines and getting behind the wheel of his vintage Porsche on a sunny afternoon.  

Factoid about Dr. Sacco: yearns to see the Kentucky Derby, The Tour de France, Giro D’Italia, 24 Hours of LeMans and World Cup soccer finals- in person.

 

Dr. Daniel Kirchheimer

Dr. Dan Kirchheimer is a Vestal graduate who is thrilled to return to his hometown to practice optometry!  Dr. Kirchheimer graduated Vestal High then attended Binghamton University for his undergraduate studies.   He completed his doctor of optometry degree at the prestigious State University of New York College of Optometry in New York City and was awarded his degree in 2010.  Prior to his degree being conferred he completed advanced training at the Saint Albans, NY and Syracuse, NY Veterans Hospitals.  These clinical internships are renowned for their training in diabetic and glaucoma related eye disease.  Dr. Kirchheimer joined us a year ago and has been a fantastic addition to our practice.  Dr. Kirchheimer is currently listed as a sub-investigator for Sacco Eye Group Ophthalmic Research and special interests include anterior segment (cornea) disease, contact lens fitting on challenging cases and retinal disease.  His easy going style has made countless patients feel at ease, and he is a natural with kids of all ages.  Dr. Kirchheimer is past president of the SUNY College of Optometry Student Society of the New York State Optometric Association, and was one of the youngest serving members of the Executive Board of the New York State Optometric Association.  He also serves as a special consultant to the Health Advisory Board for the Family Enrichment Network. 

Dr. Kirchheimer is a volunteer firefighter with the Vestal Fire Department and enjoys giving back to his community by keeping others safe.  In his spare time he enjoys tinkering with his boat and cars and is mechanically inclined to a degree that scares the rest of us.  Dr. Kirchheimer and his wife, Heather, are proud parents of William, who was born in June of 2010.  They all live in Vestal.  You may be able to spot William's latest photo in the exam rooms.  Dr. Kirchheimer looks forward to taking excellent care of you and your family.
